Squirrel β€” Support & FAQ

Getting Started

How do I install the apps?

  1. Download the zip file from your order confirmation email or your order page.
  2. Double-click the zip to unzip it.
  3. Drag the apps themselves into your Applications folder (not the folder that contains them β€” the Squirrel Helper only finds apps sitting directly in Applications).
  4. Double-click an app to open it.

On first launch, macOS may show a security prompt β€” see the next question.

macOS says the app is from an "unidentified developer" or asks me to confirm before opening. Is this normal?

Yes, and it's a one-time thing. All Squirrel apps are signed and notarized by Apple β€” they've been automatically scanned for malware. macOS still shows a prompt the very first time you open an app that didn't come from the App Store. Here's how to get past it:

Option A (easiest): Right-click (or Control-click) the app icon β†’ Open β†’ click Open in the dialog. You only need to do this once per app.

Option B: Open the app normally. If macOS blocks it, go to System Settings β†’ Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to the Squirrel app name.

After that first launch, the app opens normally forever.

Do the apps need an internet connection?

No. Every Squirrel app runs entirely offline. Nothing is ever sent to a server β€” there are no servers. Your data lives only on your Mac.

What Mac do I need?

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later (released October 2022)
  • Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) or Intel β€” all apps are universal binaries
  • No minimum RAM or disk requirement worth mentioning; the apps are tiny

Where does my data get saved?

Your data is saved to your Mac at:

~/Library/Application Support/Squirrel/

Squirrel never sends, syncs, or uploads it β€” no accounts, no cloud. It stays there unless you move or delete it (or your own backup, like iCloud Drive or Time Machine, happens to include that folder β€” your choice, not ours).

Can I use the apps on multiple Macs?

Your purchase covers personal use. Copy the zip to your other Mac and install the same way. If you've paid for a pack or the full kit, you can install it on your own machines.

Managing & Removing Apps

How do I uninstall an app?

Quick uninstall (app only): Drag the app from your Applications folder to the Trash. Done.

Full uninstall (app + all saved data): Use the Squirrel Helper app β€” it comes bundled with every pack and the Full Kit (here's what it does). It lists every Squirrel app installed on your Mac, and lets you remove any app plus its saved data with one click β€” reversibly, via your Trash.

Alternatively, remove the data manually:

  1. Open Finder β†’ Go menu β†’ Go to Folder…
  2. Type ~/Library/Application Support/Squirrel/
  3. Delete the folder for the app you want to remove (e.g. FocusJail/)

How do I update an app?

Download the latest zip from your order page and replace the old .app in your Applications folder with the new one. Your saved data is untouched.

I accidentally deleted my download. Where do I get it again?

Go to your Lemon Squeezy order page and download again β€” no limit on re-downloads.

Specific Apps

FocusJail keeps blocking an app I need. How do I let it in?

Open FocusJail from the menu bar and add the app to your allow-list. Click the lock icon, then Edit Allow List, and add the app by name.

FocusJail or BoringRedirect asked for a permission I'm not sure about. What is it?

These two apps watch which app is frontmost (FocusJail) or control your browser's active tab (BoringRedirect) β€” that's the whole point of them. macOS requires explicit permission for both:

  • FocusJail needs Accessibility access (System Settings β†’ Privacy & Security β†’ Accessibility). This lets it detect when you've switched to a non-allowed app.
  • BoringRedirect needs Automation access for your browser (it'll prompt you the first time). This lets it redirect the active tab.

Neither app reads the content of your screen, your files, or anything else. The permission is scoped narrowly to what the app actually does.

Waypoint / FocusJail / Surfacing / BoringRedirect live in the menu bar β€” where did they go?

They're menu-bar apps, so they don't appear in the Dock. Look for their icons in the right side of your menu bar (the row of icons near the clock). If you have a lot of menu-bar icons, they might be hidden β€” try clicking the Β» arrow that appears when the bar is full, or use a menu-bar manager like Bartender or Ice to reveal them.

Surfacing interrupted me and I wasn't hyperfocusing. Can I adjust the timer?

Yes β€” click the Surfacing icon in your menu bar and adjust the "Surface after" duration. The default is 50 minutes; you can set it anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours.

Did I Take It? β€” is this a medical app?

No. Did I Take It? is a memory aid: one big yes/no per medication per day, with a log you can glance at. It is not a clinical tool, does not give medical advice, and is not a substitute for talking to your doctor or pharmacist about your medication regimen.

Privacy & Data

What data do you collect?

None. There are no analytics, no crash reporters, no usage tracking of any kind baked into Squirrel apps. The apps don't have the ability to send data anywhere β€” they have no network code.

Your purchase is handled by Lemon Squeezy (our payment processor), which has its own privacy policy. We receive your email address so we can send your order receipt; we don't use it for marketing.

Do the apps connect to the internet?

No. The only network activity is at the moment of purchase (handled by Lemon Squeezy's checkout). After that, the apps are fully offline.

Is my saved data (habits, notes, log entries) private?

Yes. It lives in ~/Library/Application Support/Squirrel/ on your Mac. It is not backed up to any cloud service by Squirrel. If you use iCloud Drive or Time Machine, those services may back up your Application Support folder β€” that's your choice, not ours.

Purchases & Refunds

Can I try before I buy?

Squirrel apps are paid Mac downloads β€” there isn't a free online demo to click through. What makes it risk-free is our 30-day, no-questions refund: buy a pack (or the full bundle), use everything in it, and if it's not for you, email squirrel@cb-industries.co within 30 days for a full refund.

I bought a pack but I want the full kit. Can I upgrade?

Email us at squirrel@cb-industries.co with your order number(s) and we'll sort it out β€” you won't pay twice.

Refunds

We offer a full refund within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked. Email squirrel@cb-industries.co with your order number.

Can I buy a single app?

Squirrel is sold as six themed packs ($5.99 each) or the full bundle of all 38 apps ($17.99) β€” not as individual apps. Each pack groups 5–8 related tools for one area of ADHD life, and the bundle is everything at ~50% off the pack total. If there's one specific tool you're after, email squirrel@cb-industries.co and we'll point you to the pack it's in.

Troubleshooting

An app won't open at all

  1. Make sure you're on macOS 13 Ventura or later (System Settings β†’ General β†’ About).
  2. Try the right-click β†’ Open method described in the installation section above.
  3. Check that the app is in your Applications folder, not still inside the zip or on your Desktop.
  4. If it still won't open, email us: squirrel@cb-industries.co

An app is behaving unexpectedly / something looks broken

Try quitting and relaunching the app (⌘Q then reopen). If the problem persists, email squirrel@cb-industries.co with:

  • Which app
  • What you expected to happen
  • What actually happened
  • Your macOS version (System Settings β†’ General β†’ About)

I lost my data after reinstalling

Your data lives at ~/Library/Application Support/Squirrel/<app-name>/. If you reinstalled macOS or got a new Mac without migrating this folder, the data won't be there. Going forward, Time Machine or any backup that covers ~/Library/ will protect it.
